Soil PH levels and their importance
Maintaining good soil pH is an important component of maintaining a healthy lawn, find out why.
The importance of Soil PH and how it affects your grass
Maintaining good soil pH is an important component
of maintaining a healthy lawn, find out why.
- Soil PH is the measure of acidity and alkalinity. Correct lawn PH is 6 to 7.5 for optimum performance.
- 00:28-00:53 Adjusting PH for sandy loam soil is easier than heavy clays. If your soil is sandy loam, you need to raise PH by 1 unit (i.e. 5.5 to 6.5) - add 150 gm of liming material per sq. meter. Heavy clay soil needs 250 gm of liming material to raise it to one unit.
- A Garden lime works the quickest and generally costs $8 a bag.
- 01:00-01:16For established lawn which may be lacking magnesium, mix 50/50 lime + dolomite as the liming material to get the right balance of calcium and magnesium. Dolomite is only available at one grade and costs $8 a bag.
- Use soil PH test kit to test your Sir Walter turf's soil PH.
