Wet grounds, cooler climate, heavy foot traffic... all contribute to a very tough season for a field's lawn, and by this time, your field is in need of repair.
To Repair or To Returf?
The first thing to assess is the extent of the damage. If you're able to rejuvenate or repair your field, that would of course be the most cost- and time- effective solution.
Sometimes you'll find the damage is fairly mild: 'How to Rejuvenate Lawns: Large Areas'.
Or you might find the damage is limited to just around the goalmouth: 'How to Repair Your Sports Field Goalmouth'.
If you find the damage is greater: a large portion of your field is brown, thin and patchy, it's probably time to returf.

The best way to returf a sports field or school oval begins with planning.
