An Interview with Eureka Kikuyu:
Where did Eureka Kikuyu PBR come from?
Eureka Kikuyu PBR is a new strain of kikuyu grass which was developed here in Australia by Lawn Solutions Australia under our recognised national turf certification program: AusGAP. Lawn Solutions Australia has used its extensive research and development resources to develop a new kikuyu that meets the market requirements for improved kikuyu performance, providing a high-quality surface with less inputs than other kikuyu grasses on the market.
What is the difference between Eureka Kikuyu PBR and other Kikuyus?
Eureka Kikuyu PBR is a stronger strain of kikuyu grass. Its characteristic ensures that the Eureka Kikuyu PBR has strong tensile strength, and is a faster and quicker repairer when compared to other kikuyus. Like any good lawn type, it requires less inputs when keeping it maintained. Eureka Kikuyu PBR is less prone to getting kikuyu yellow and slime mould like other kikuyus are prone to. Eureka Kikuyu PBR is the only kikuyu variety that is grown to AusGAP certifications and is backed by an LSA 10-year product warranty.
Why was Eureka Kikuyu PBR selected over other Kikuyus?
We chose Eureka Kikuyu PBR due to its quick regrowth and tensile strength traits. This means as a turf farmer, we have a kikuyu variety that would hold together tighter and stronger when harvesting, and that would provide our clients with a strong, easy-to-lay roll of turf - something that was not common for other kikuyu types. Eureka Kikuyu PBR is also less prone to getting Kikuyu Yellows and Slime Mould, so we can ensure our customer of a kikuyu variety to prove the test of time.
How do I care for my Eureka Kikuyu?
x. Here are some Eureka Kikuyu care tips that we recommend:
Sunlight |
Eureka Kikuyu PBR will grow beautifully in full sun, making it the perfect fit for big, open spaces like school ovals and parks. . |
|
Mowing |
Mowing will depend on the area you're using it and the look you want. For residential properties, we recommend mowing 2-3 times a week in the growing season to ensure you keep the kikuyu to a nice, manicured look. For open space areas, mowing once per week in the growing season will keep the Eureka Kikuyu PBR maintained at a well-presented height. |
|
Watering |
Once established, like all lawns, we recommend you do less frequent, heavier soakings of water. We suggest watering once per week for about one to two hours, depending on the sprinkler type. This will ensure the water travels deep into the soil and encourage the lawn roots to go deeper into the soil to help make them even stronger. |
|
Fertilising |
We recommend fertilising your Eureka Kikuyu PBR about 3-4 times per year to ensure your kikuyu continues to have the nutrients it needs to thrive in all situations. Check out our favourite fertiliser in our range of lawn care products on our online shop. |
|
Weeding |
Because your Eureka Kikuyu PBR turf is weed-resistant, there won't be a lot of weeding required. However, we always recommend keeping an eye out for weeds, especially in Autumn. Take care of them with a selective week killer like All Purpose Weed Control - take care of them immediately and you’ll never have a worry! A great hint is to stop weeds before they cause problems. We recommend using Oxafert, a pre-emergent control that stops any new weeds germinating, and at the same time provides fertilisers to your lawn. |
|
Scalping / dethatching |
If you find your lawn becoming very spongy and thick and aren't happy with the feel, then you can scalp or dethatch your Eureka Kikuyu PBR lawn. We recommend scalping in early spring. |
|
Lawn grubs and pests |
You won't have too many concerns with lawn grubs and other pests in your Eureka Kikuyu PBR grass. Again though, we always recommend keeping an eye out for signs of pests and treating immediately. Most common grubs that cause problems is Lawn Grub and Army Grub. Lawn Grubs attack the roots of the lawn and will make the grass appear to have dry-like symptoms (only in plague portions will they cause damage). Army Grub attack the leaf of the lawn, mostly at night and most-commonly between December and May. If you have an Army Grub problem, you'll see scalping-like symptoms come up over night. Don't stress, treat immediately with Grub Guard, or for 6 months use Aceylpran GR. |
