  Lawns go dormant through winter - like hybernating bears...

We’ve been talking fertiliser for a good reason over the past few weeks – it’s almost winter! Okay, some may say the glass is still half full being that we’re only half-way through Autumn, but there’s no slowing it down: winter is fast approaching.  

So, what happens now and what should you do? Today we’ll recap that crucial information for you and your lawn!

From flowers and plants, trees and shrubs, to fruits and vegetables, to your lawn, if your soil is not providing the right balance of nutrients, your vegetation simply will not thrive.

“To be (organic) or not to be (organic)…”

The heat not letting up over the last two weeks here in Sydney has left us with a fair few lawn enquiries! Images of heat stressed lawns ("sunburnt grass") have been accompanied by questions of what has happened and how it can be fixed. Today we go you one better and additionally address how you can avoid heat stress for your lawn next heatwave!

Woah it’s been hot here in Sydney! And you know it’s going to be another scorcher when you step outside in the morning, feel like you’re in a clothes dryer, and you’re already looking forward to getting back inside with the a/c. Out in the blistering heat all day are many living things, and our great Aussie lawns are one.

So how much water does your lawn need in this heat? And when is the best time to water it?

One of the primary questions we get here at the Green Life Turf office is about fertilising lawn; in particular, how often and when it should be done.

The answer to this question will depend on your lawn type, its environment, and the general health it’s currently in. Generally speaking fertilising is usually required once in the early spring season (September or October), and again in late autumn (April or May).

We also find another application of fertiliser around December / January to be highly beneficial - but we recommend waiting until a period where humidity will be medium-low; high humidity may encourage fungus and nobody wants that! We like to use Weather Zone for our 7-day weather forecast that includes a simple read humidity forecast.
